Fun exercises for kids to try at home

Kids playing

It can be really hard to stay active during the winter months, but it's so important for children's physical and mental health.

These simple, fun activities are perfect to try at home. You don't need any equipment and can do them from anywhere you like, whether that's in your bedroom or on the kitchen floor!

Exercise 1: Animal relay

Run around the room while doing impressions of different animals! Waddle like a penguin, jump like a frog or hop like a rabbit. Once your little ones have mastered their chosen animals, they're ready to race!

Exercise 2: The floor is lava!

In this fun game, you have to get from one end of the room to the other without touching the floor, so you have to get creative. Think about using cushions and chairs to get across the lava pit!

Exercise 3: Follow the leader

Pick one person to be the leader and everyone else has to copy them. It's up to the leader to think of fun exercises, but it could be anything from hopping on one leg to spinning jumps!

Exercise 4: Balancing act

This is a great game for children's core and balance. Find out who can stay on one foot for the longest and make the challenge slightly more difficult each round. You could stand on a pillow, close your eyes, or wave your hands in circles to make it harder.

Exercise 5: Disco time

Pick a lively song that everybody likes and come up with a dance routine together. You can include lots of silly moves and it's a great way to keep your child active.
