Christmas literacy boosting tips

Read Christmas cards together – as they arrive in the post, spend time opening cards and reading them together with your child.

Share stories – add to the excitement by asking your child about their favourite festive memories and telling them about Christmas events they were too young to remember.

Christmas words – if your child has an advent calendar, introduce them to a new festive-themed word as they open it each day.

Sing Christmas songs - the repetition in songs and rhymes can help younger children to learn important language skills.

Thank you letters – encourage your child to practice their writing with letters or emails to thank friends and family for their Christmas gifts.

Daily reading time – Christmas can be hectic, make sure you set time aside each day to enjoy some quiet reading with your child.
