Katharine Holabird

Katharine Holabird grew up in an artistic household in Chicago. As a child, she lived in an imaginary world of fairy tales, princesses, and ballerinas, and loved to perform and dance with her sisters. Katharine’s first children’s book, Angelina Ballerina, was published in 1983 and the famous dancing mouseling will celebrate her 30th anniversary next year.

Q: If you could be a storybook character who would you be?
A: I'd love to be 'The Worst Witch' from Jill Murphy's books. The Worst Witch does all sorts of spells and magic, and she can fly in the air!

Q: What is the best thing about reading?
A: Going on great adventures and meeting amazing characters while lounging on the sofa!

Q: If you could invite any author to tea, who would it be and why?
A: I'd invite Dr Seuss to tea, as he was the funniest children's writer ever.

Q: What is your all time favourite book?
A: I have always loved 'Charlotte's Web' by E.B.White - it's a fantastic story with talking animals, a clever spider, and a girl who understands them all.
