Summer Reading Challenge

Encourage your child to read during the summer holidays and join the Summer Reading Challenge! Perfect for children aged four to 11, the theme of this year’s challenge is Record Breakers.

Run by the Reading Agency, the scheme aims to get children to read six books from their library over the summer. As many children experience learning loss over the school break, the Summer Reading Challenge is a great way to keep your child reading through the holidays.

How to get involved:

  • Go to your local library as soon as possible over the summer holidays
  • Staff at the library will enrol your child and give them some fun materials to get them started on the challenge
  • Children can log the books they’ve read during the holidays on the Summer Reading Challenge website
  • They can also find books recommended by other children and take part in competitions and games around the Record Breakers theme
  • Go to www.summerreadingchallenge.org.uk to find out more
