Happiness and wellbeing

There are lots of reading and writing activities you can do with your child to help with their happiness and wellbeing.

We’ve brought together our best tips and activities. You can download our colouring sheets, or help your child start their own worry journal.

Happiness and wellbeing

Wellbeing is a big topic, especially in recent years, so it is important that we all find ways to manage our emotions, find joy in the everyday and have tools to help us look after our wellbeing. This is the same for children.

Talking about the worries or problems your child has can help them feel better. Sometimes, if they are unable to understand the emotions they are feeling or the causes of their mood, they might find it easier to chat with you about their wellbeing while they do an activity or as part of reading a book together.

We know that it can be hard to find time in your busy days and not always possible to sit and read with your child. But even just reading for 10 minutes every day is great for your child’s happiness, wellbeing and, of course, for improving their reading and writing.

Making time to regularly read with your children can help them to:

  • Relax and unwind.
  • Escape from the pressures of life.
  • Improve memory, concentration and focus.
