This challenge is inspired by The BFG and encourages your child to capture their dreams!
In Roald Dahl’s book, The BFG visits humans and collects their dreams. He stores them in magical jars to keep them safe and is always on the lookout for more.
For this activity, challenge your child to write a diary entry describing their dreams. They should have a go at this when they wake up in the morning.
- Ask them to describe what happened when they were sleeping
- Did they meet someone famous? Dream of their friends? Or maybe they travelled somewhere magical?
- If your child says they didn’t dream, then they can write about their best dream ever.
- Once they’ve finished, help your child to roll up their piece of paper, pop it in a jar for the BFG, and leave it by their bedroom window. They could have a go at decorating their jar too.
Bonus activity
Instead of writing about just one dream, your child could keep a dream diary for an entire week – or maybe even longer. Remind them to write the date at the start of each entry, and try to write their diary entry as soon as they wake up when they can still remember their dreams.
