The RSL Literature Matters workshops bring together a Royal Society of Literature Fellow with a famous friend to take part in a series of free write-along workshops.
In this video poet Inua Ellams is joined by Radio 1 DJ Gemma Cairney for a poetry writing workshop with a modern twist. In his take of an existing form of poetry called the Golden Shovel, he uses WhatsApp messages as a starting point to build a poem.
Ellams calls this method the 'Golden Conversation".
What to do:
- Open your messages and choose a message that contains at least 10 words.
- Write those 10 words on the right side of your page.
- Then write your 10-line poem connecting those words!
