The RSL Literature Matters workshops bring together a Royal Society of Literature Fellow with a famous friend to take part in a series of free write-along workshops.
In this video writer Nikesh Shukla runs a poetry workshop with comedian Josie Long.
Just like warming up at the gym it's important to warm up your creative muscles and Nikesh does this by doing 12-15 minutes of 'free writing' before he opens his Word document to work on his latest novel.
Free writing means just writing whatever comes into your head and going with it to get your creative juices flowing. It's a great way to get started and it can take you on some really interesting paths too, as Josie realised when she tried it.
Watch the video below to join Nikesh and Josie for 12 minutes of free writing.
Don't worry if you're short on inspiration, Nikesh gives a new prompt every two minutes to inspire you.
What to do:
- Get a pen and paper (or write on a screen if you prefer).
- Watch the video below and follow the prompts to write along.
