My Storytelling Scrapbook

Making a scrapbook is a great way to create positive memories and a piece of history to look back on with your child for Storytelling Week.

My Storytelling Scrapbook

Sit with your child and explore your culture and experiences together with our activity booklets titled My Storytelling Scrapbook.

Encourage your child to draw pictures, stick in photos and write about the special people in their life. This activity is a perfect opportunity to get them thinking about who they are, reflecting on the world around them while developing their speaking, reading and writing skills.

My Storytelling Scrapbook encourages you to share stories, memories, and experiences with your children, and promotes a love of reading and regional voices. Chatting about themes from your life and hearing about each other’s experiences, in your first language helps you build an identity.

It combines reading with activities for developing your child's ability to read, write and speak in their first language.

It celebrates the value and skill of speaking multiple languages and having a local dialect, and the ways that these voices and stories shape our community. With an equal focus on speaking and reading, it promotes your community voices and lots of different cultures.

There are three scrapbooks, aimed at children aged 3-5, 5-7 and 7-11, which can be downloaded and printed. Each bespoke activity pack is specially designed for its specific age group.

The 3-5 activity supports the early language and communication skills of children – including activities for helping them explore the world around them.

The 5-7 activity encourages your child to start discovering and talking about their family traditions, helps build their skills to become strong communicators, and begin to identify the special people in their life.

The 7-11 activity enhances these literacy skills and encourages your child to reflect on their cultural traditions, and compare experiences, values and interests across the family, and develop more of a sense of identity and sense of pride in where they come from.
