Storytelling is a great way to support children's communication and language development, but it can be difficult to know where to start.
We're pleased to be working with storyteller and performer Niall Moorjani as part of National Storytelling Week. We have a selection of videos that will support you to tell and share stories with your child.
Niall has recorded a series of videos with tips and ideas to help you.
What are the benefits of storytelling for young children?
- Learning new words.
- Developing listening skills.
- Developing language skills; conversation, singing and story telling.
- Repetition, rhyme and the use of sound effects support children to hear sounds and understand how language works.
- Developing imaginations. Children will anticipate and predict what might happen next.
- Storytelling provides opportunities to talk about and express feelings.
- Building confidence. Children have fun experimenting and expressing themselves in different ways using their voice, facial expression, body language and gestures.
- Having fun together!
